When you’re concerned about your gutter system, you could need one of two things: a good cleaning or a complete system overhaul by our esteemed professionals.
While it can be difficult to know exactly what you need, the good thing about bringing in a team of professionals is that we can not only perform routine cleanings and maintenance, but also evaluate what you’ve got going on so we can tell you exactly what it is you need (and maybe even do some repairs while we’re there). So can your current gutters handle a while longer of wear and tear, or do you need a complete replacement?
To give you a better idea of what kind of situation you’ll be running into when comes to look at your roofing system, let’s look at the signs of needing a completely new system.
The first sign of real trouble is mold and mildew. If you’re seeing signs of it anywhere in or directly around your home, chances are there’s some serious damage.
A good gutter system carries water away from the home to a safe space that won’t damage walls or foundation. But if you’re seeing water pool on the side of your exterior or – even worse – signs of water damage inside, something has gone wrong with your gutters and we’ll either need to make repairs or do a replacement.
Another thing to look for, which you can see from the ground on a clear dry day, are cracks. Cracking is an indication that your gutters have lived their best life and are now ready for a replacement. Cracking happens when gutters have about exceeded their time. One or two cracks can be repaired, but more than that will require a system replacement.
Additionally, if you are noticing leaks along the seams of your gutters, know that repairing those is a labor-intensive task that could leave you better off with replacing your gutters. If you’re going to put in a pretty big investment into a repair, a replacement could be more efficient if your gutters are near the end of their use.
The last thing to look for is bubbling and chipping in the paint. While it could be due to a simple, repairable issue, paint damage to your siding is usually a sign of gutter damage. Your roof and gutters should protect your home’s paint from water exposure that causes bubbling and chipping of the paint. So if you’re seeing this, you can be sure your gutters aren’t doing their job.
