The term ‘fall’ when we talk about gutters, is how much the gutter is made to drop, or slope, into outlet drainpipes. The accepted average is 20mm for every 5 metres of guttering, though if the pitch of your roof is steeper it may need to be more, as more water will be collected faster.
The main purpose of gutters is to direct water away from the roof, and building, into a safe drainage area. Even though metal roofs are naturally water proof and wont stain from running water coursing over them, water running down your external walls and pooling at the base will cause erosion and structural problems.
It is very, very common for fascia boards to be stained and begin rotting if gutters have not been fitted correctly. Guttering systems that have the correct fall and slope, adequate amount of downpipes, and guttering aprons installed, will prevent water getting behind the facia boards in the first place.
An inadequate slope, often causes standing water, or pooling water, when the gutter was installed. If there is no debris blocking water flow, then that is a clear sign it’s a slope, or fall, issue. The guttering will need to be re-shaped to angle away the right amount to stop water pooling.
A gutter apron is a long folded piece of metal or other material, usually 4 inches above the fold, and another 4 inches below. A drip edge is fitted underneath the very edge of the roof tiles or sheeting. The gutter apron goes just under the drip edge, and then just over the gutter –
If the issues or damage with your guttering are extensive or cover a large area, then a total replacement is the best course of action. However if the damage is minimal, or the problem is only with one section of guttering, then a repair could be suitable.

There are different shapes and different materials. K-style gutters are meant to have a superior aesthetic and can hold more water. They’re more expensive than
